AI search optimisation agency for Australian businesses
AI search optimisation is the work of making a business easy for AI search engines to find, understand, trust and quote. Cited AI is an Australian AI Search and AI Visibility agency, and we optimise for each engine separately: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Claude, because each one sources its answers differently.
Why “AI search” needs its own approach
AI search increasingly answers the question directly rather than relying only on a traditional list of blue links. Engines retrieve sources, synthesise an answer and often name just a few businesses, usually with supporting links. Two things follow: the pages they retrieve have to state your facts plainly, and the third-party pages they trust have to agree with you. Our guide to AI search explains the mechanics in plain English.
How each platform finds businesses
| Platform | Where its answers come from | What we focus on |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | A mix of model knowledge and live web search, with inline sources when it searches | Crawlable service pages, clear entity facts, presence on the sources it cites |
| Google AI Overviews & AI Mode | Google’s search index and Knowledge Graph | Indexable answer-ready pages, structured data, Google Business Profile |
| Gemini | Google’s information ecosystem, sometimes with map listings | Entity consistency across Google surfaces, reviews, local signals |
| Perplexity | Live web retrieval with many visible citations | Being on the pages it cites: list articles, directories, publications |
| Microsoft Copilot | Bing’s index, with inline citations | Bing indexing, Bing Places, the same structural signals as Bing search |
| Claude | Web search with cited pages | Clear, well-sourced, factual pages that are easy to quote |
In our October 2026 data, the same question produced different shortlists on different engines. Gemini named about five businesses per answer, ChatGPT about four and Perplexity about two, while Perplexity cited the most sources. Optimising for one engine is not enough.
Our AI search optimisation process
- Access: confirm Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot can reach and render your pages, and that nothing important is blocked or noindexed.
- Entity: one consistent name, category, location and description across your site, schema, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and key directories.
- Answers: pages that answer the real questions in your category, with direct first sentences, tables and FAQs where they help.
- Sources: identify the list articles, directories and publications each engine cites for your category, and earn genuine inclusion.
- Measurement: re-run your prompt set across engines each month and log what changed.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
Google’s AI features draw on its search index, so classic indexability and helpful content still matter. We focus on pages that answer a question in the first two sentences, clean structured data and a complete Google Business Profile. More detail: how to appear in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode.
ChatGPT and Perplexity
Both search the live web for many commercial questions and show their sources. The fastest wins usually come from being on the pages they already cite. See how to get recommended by ChatGPT and our comparison of ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI search agency?
An AI search agency optimises a business for AI-powered search engines such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude, so that they find, understand and recommend it.
Is AI search optimisation the same as AEO and GEO?
They overlap. AI search optimisation is the umbrella service; AEO focuses on answer-ready content and GEO on how generative engines describe and source a brand. See AEO vs GEO vs AIO vs AI SEO.
Should I block AI crawlers?
Usually not if you want to be recommended. Search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot need access to surface and cite you. Training crawlers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot can be allowed or blocked separately; that is a business decision.
